[tech] Macbook Pro in Boot Camp - Broadcom Wireless drivers

Technology No Comments »

If you’ve got one of the newer Mac Pros, your drivers for boot camp will only be on the Mac OS X install DVDs.

If you’re like me, you bought Leopard when it first came out and you’ve tried in vain to install the drivers from the retail leopard DVD. Some things would work, such as wired networking but the Broadcom Wireless drivers, sound and graphics drivers would refuse to install.

Apple recently released Boot Camp v2.1. If you have lost your Mac OSX install disks for your MBP simply install the drivers from your Leopard retail disk, download Boot Camp 2.1, run 2.1 and repair/remove the installation. This will install all the new drivers and you will then be up and running nicely.

So to recap:

  • You want to install boot camp
  • You’re an idiot like myself who has lost the Mac OS X Install DVDs for your Macbook Pro
  • Install the boot camp software from your old Leopard retail DVD
  • Download Boot Camp 2.1 from Apple and run the file
  • Repair/Reinstall the installation
  • Reboot and all the drivers are there
  • Just a quick update

Two blog posts in one day? Something strange is going on!

I’ve been reading some of my old blog posts this morning and came across my New Years resolutions for 2008. These were:

    1) Go to New York in the summer for a holiday
    2) Go to the gym once a week starting January 7th
    3) Never cancel seeing friends unless I’m dying
    4) Don’t let anyone else change who I am

I’m laughing at myself really.. 1 never happened, 2 was bound to fail miserably but I’ve stuck to 3 and 4 quite well I think.

Time to think of some more ridiculous resolutions for next year :) It’ll be Jonmas soon!

Some of you may know about the rumoured release of iTunes v8 next week.
As part of iTunes v8 there will apparently be a new visualisation, one of which is by Robert Hodgin aka flight404.

I thought I’d share some of his amazing work with you here, especially this visualisation in particular. It made me stare at my screen for the whole 4 mins and left me quite speechless.

    Time for a life update

Hiya! I thought I’d do a quick update here :)

For those of you asking about the wedding, yes, everythings pretty much done now. My brother’s band will be playing for an hour (don’t get me started about the band. I keep changing my mind and it’s driving some people crazy) and there will be lots of food and pudding! Hmm I must see about cheesecake.

I can’t believe it’s September already. It’s going to be my birthday again soon and it’s really depressing that I’m turning 26. Nothings been planned yet for it which is really unusual, especially as I planned last years night out in July :)

And oh, my poor car wasn’t very well this week. I had to get a new ignition lead as the engine was turning itself off when I was driving :) dangerous and frightening at the same time and I wasn’t anywhere near legoland!

Anyway enough of my rambling. :)… and the crazy smiley faces :) :)

I'll find something to put here
